A lefty off the bench for the San Francisco Giants, Mike Aldrete gives his team an option for a lefty bat in clutch situations. He can be subbed for a number of starters for his team and his usually subbed for one of the following players: Jose Uribe, Bob Brenly, or Robbie Thompson, though admittedly his power boost as a starter isn't great.
The RBI Baseball Database aims to be the collecting point for all things related to the Nintendo game RBI Baseball. All players, terms, concepts, fandom, culture, etc will hopefully oneday be contained here. There are NUMBEROFARTICLES articles in the database, most of which are small and need more information. Give it a shot!

Jose Uribe is the leadoff hitter and starting shortstop for San Francisco on the NES version of RBI. He lacks any skills and should be immediately subbed for the great Harry Spilman. Jose was killed in a car crash in his home town on December 8, 2006.
Bio
* Born January 21, 1959 in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic
* Signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 1977
* Played in the Big Leagues from 1984 to 1993
* Traded by the St. Louis Cardinals with David Green, Dave LaPoint, and Gary Rajsich to the San Francisco Giants for Jack Clark.

Uribe in RBI
It's pretty simple, Jose Uribe should never see an at-bat for your team. His 747 power rating is simply awful, one of the lowest in the game. Couple that with a pathetic leadoff speed of 128 (8 points behind teammate Chili Davis and you have the worst leadoff hitter not named Randolph. Being a lefty also doesn't help in this case, as his low speed nullifies any chance of a Pettis (Term). All in all, Uribe is a total waste of space and one of the worst overall players in RBI.

Harry Spilman typically gets the nod for replacing Uribe, but any old sub will do. Mike Aldrete is usually the other guy who is a most used as a sub - but since all 4 guys have better power numbers, you can take your pick.

Hall of Shame Entries
* Jose was also humorously the "Player to Really be Named Later". Early in his career, he was delivered as "the player to be named later" in a trade between the Giants and the Cardinals. Between the time of the initial trade and his delivery, he changed his name from Jose Uribe Gonzalez (Gonzalez is his mother's name) to just Jose Uribe (Uribe is his father's name) in order to minimize confusion with the more common name of Gonzalez. Thus he really was "named later". Thanks to the wikipedia for this one...
Gary Carter is the right-handed cleanup hitter for the New York Mets in the NES version or RBI. Carter is a heavy hitter, ranking 36th overall with a 879 power rating. However, he is widely regarded as inconsistent, streaky, and notorious for grounding into inning-ending double-plays. His speed (120) is downright painful, ranking him as one of the slower runners in the game. While Carter's been known for the occasional multi-homer game, you really just hope he can find a way on base so that Darryl Strawberry can clean house. Carter's man-perm ranks second only to Don Sutton.

Elected to the Hall of Fame in 2003, Carter batted .262 with 2092 hits, 324 homeruns, 1225 RBI's, and 1025 runs scored over 19 seasons. He was an eleven-time All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner, and five-time Silver Slugger award winner. He was algo manager of the St. Lucie Mets.

On February 16, 2012 Carter passed away from brain cancer.
* On his 34th birthday, Carter was in the lineup for a game against the Phillies. He went 3 for 3, driving in the Mets' only run with a home run. With 2 out in the 9th, Carter ended the game by getting picked off by Steve Jeltz's hidden ball trick.
* Perceived large ego, love of self-promotion and reputation for only playing hard when a game was televised to a national audience earned him the nickname "Camera Carter"
Jose Uribe is the leadoff hitter and starting shortstop for San Francisco on the NES version of RBI. He lacks any skills and should be immediately subbed for the great Harry Spilman. Jose was killed in a car crash in his home town on December 8, 2006

Donnie Moore is a relief pitcher for California on the NES version of RBI. Like his teammate Doug Corbett, he is a part of the weak link in California's team - the bullpen. His fastball can be effective on occassion, but he offers next to nothing in terms of curve or breaking ball. This is one reasons why a popular strategy against California is to take and foul off a lot of pitches against starters and try to get into the bullpen.
Puckett the Player
Known for his enthusiasm and clutch hitting prowess, Kirby Puckett was a leader on the Minnesota Twins through his 12-year Major League career. Puckett played his entire career with the Twins, accumulating over 2000 hits and a .318 career batting average. He was one of seven players (along with Al Newman, Greg Gagne, Gene Larkin, Dan Gladden, Kent Hrbek, and Randy Bush) to play on both World Championship Twins teams, in 1987 and 1991.

Puckett got his start with the Twins in 1984 and immediately established himself as the club's leadoff man, hitting near .300 in each of his first two seasons before a breakout 1986, in which he hit 34 homeruns after only hitting four in the previous two years combined. By 1987, Puckett was moved to the third spot in the batting order, making room for newly acquired leadoff man Gladden. That season, Puckett hit .332 with 28 homeruns, leading the Twins to their first World Championship, as they defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games.

Puckett continued to hit well even as the Twins faltered, winning the American League batting title in 1989 with a .339 average. 1990 saw his average dip below .300 for the first time in five years, but it was only a temporary blip, as he recovered in 1991 while leading the Twins to another championship. Puckett put on his greatest show in Game 6 of that Series. He tripled in a run and scored in the first inning, robbed Dave Justice of extra bases with a leaping catch against the Plexiglass in left-center field of the Metrodome, drove in another run with a sacrifice fly, and finally ended the game with a solo homerun in the bottom of the 11th inning.

Puckett's career came to an abrupt end in 1996. A beaning ended his 1995 season, and during Spring Training the next season, he was diagnosed with glaucoma. Surgeries attempting to correct the problem were unsuccessful, and he was forced to announce his retirement that July. His number 34 was retired by the Twins in 1997. Despite his abbreviated career, Puckett was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001, his first appearance on the ballot, becoming the third-youngest person ever enshrined.

Puckett is the Twins' all-time leader in hits, at-bats, total bases, doubles, and runs scored. He is also credited with giving Don Mattingly the nickname "Donnie Baseball".

Post-baseball Life
After his retirement, Puckett took a front-office position with the Twins, and the street segment adjoining the Metrodome was officially renamed "Kirby Puckett Place". In 2002, Puckett was accused of dragging a woman into a bathroom and groping her in a Minneapolis nightclub. He was charged with 5th degree criminal sexual conduct, 5th degree assault, and false imprisonment. He was eventually acquitted of all charges, but he kept a much lower profile in the Twins organization after the incident and moved to Arizona in 2003.

Puckett suffered a massive stroke on March 5, 2006 at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona, and died the next day at a Phoenix hospital. At age 45, he became the second-youngest person to die after being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, after Lou Gehrig. His death was the second among players from the NES version of RBI Baseball, after Donnie Moore.
For each curve pitch (no drop/not fast) you throw, you lose one point of stamina. For each fastball or drop pitch you throw you lose 2 points of stamina. Once your remaining stamina hits 0, all you other values start decreasing with each pitch you throw. On the NES version of RBI, starting pitchers have a range of 40-54 points of stamina and relief pitchers have 12-16 points of stamina. The stamina ratings for Arcade pitchers are a bit more variant.

Slurve is a method to the madness that is RBI Baseball and is a name given to a pitching style used by a minority of RBI players.

The rules of slurve pitching are rather simple and break down like this:
# Every pitch must be a strike
# A pitcher is not allowed under any circumstance to throw two changeups in a row
# Breaking rules 1 or 2 results in a straight pitch being delivered immediately following said fuck up

Rule #1 does NOT mean every pitch must be straight. The pitcher has the liberty of moving the ball all around the screen so long as said ball is called a strike in the event the batter does not swing.

The majority of slurve players rely on location, location, location when pitching and mind games are a rare occurance. The beauty of slurve is the inconsitency in games, as players may go through stretches of 3-2, 2-1 games and then suddenly partake in a 14-12 slugfest. These swings in score are often accompanied by the mass consumption of alcohol.
