The Rocket with the Red Sox

Roger Clemens is the No. 1 pitcher for the Boston Red Sox and is without question one of the best pitchers in the game. He is helped by Boston's impressive batting order, but if he's on, "The Rocket" can give you a solid game. He has a tremendous fastball (second-best in the game) and above an above average curve and stamina. Getting maximum innings out of Clemens is crucial due to the severe suckiness of the rest of Boston's pitching line-up.

  • Clemens and Piazza would have another famous run-in that year, during Game 1 of the 2000 World Series. On a foul ball that broke Piazza's bat, Clemens picked up the barrel of the bat (which had gone towards the mound) and hurled it at Piazza. Benches emptied, but no punches were thrown or ejections made.
  • Was ejected in the second inning of a 1990 ALCS game against the Oakland A's by home plate umpire Terry Cooney for arguing balls and strikes. Clemens would later be suspended for the first five games of the 1991 season and fined $10,000
