Hit Index

The hit index is a one-byte field ($00 to $0F) in the batting engine that determines what area of your bat hits the ball. The more "lined up" the bat is with the ball, the number will fall more towards the middle of the $00-$0F range. If you're barely making contact, the number will fall closer to one edge or the other of the $00-$0F range.
The hit index value is used to determine if you suffer the contact penalty.
