Rob Wilfong, RBI Legend

Rob Wilfong is a bench player for California on the NES version of RBI. He is known for a wide variety of on-the-field and off-the-field antics and is one of the more cultish figures in RBI. Not only does he posess one of the top mustaches in the game, he gained instant fame when Dee-Nee founder Gantry once dreamed that he went to college with his mythical son, Rob Jr.

Wilfong in RBI

Wilfong is one of those players that doesn't quite impress you at first. His pedestrian .248 average and 3 homers give many players a false sense of suckiness. Though who use Wilfong though know his RBI abilities far exceed his numbers. He has a respectable 816 power rating, which typically results in a surprising amount of homers. He is a left handed hitter, giving him the boost in straight pitch. Being a bench player, he also gets the advantage of the pinch hit power boost.

Given some of the serious anchors in California's starting lineup, most feel that Wilfong should immediately be subbed in. Most put him in at leadoff for Gary Pettis, but others put him in for either Bobby Grich or Bob Boone. Regardless, Wilfong should make the starting lineup sooner rather than later. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the results.
