Overall Ranking Explanation

The final category is an attempt to quantify the best overall offensive players in the game, using a weighted system that takes all three offensive categories into account. In each of the three categories above, all 120 players were given a "weighted" number, based on what percentage of the best player in that category their rating was. For example, Andre Dawson is the most powerful player in the game at 954. He received a 1.000 for the power percentage (meaning 954 is the maximum power in the game). Rafael Santana at 708 has the worst power rating in the game. Diving his power rating (708) by Dawson's (954) means that Santana is 74.2 percent as powerful as Dawson, giving him a power percentage of 0.742.

All 120 players were ranked similarly for each of the three offensive categories. Each of these three numbers were combined to create an overall offensive quality ranking. However, the numbers were weighted to take into account the relative importance or lack of importance of each of the categories. Since power is generally considered to be the most important attribute by far, it was given the most weight (60 percent), followed by speed (25 percent) and then contact (15 percent).
